Today I received my lovely email advising of the new power price hikes almost 18%.
Thanks Mrs Gillard that's all Australia needed. While you give your self a $114,000 pay rise, companies are going into liquidation & voluntary
administration.
And when you get voted out us poor tax payer if we still have job will have to pay this for the rest of your life

This is a nightmare news for any person like me who used to earn hand to mouth. The last rate was fine but the new rate will create a suffering for me.
Sorry to hear that ash846bra , when simple things like paying for power is causing hardship there really is something wrong but they still don't care !
From WA and only going to get worse:
Help to pay power bills trebles in two years!
More families are struggling with high power prices than ever before, according to new figures showing an almost 60 per cent increase in customers seeking State Government help to pay their bills.
The figures from Synergy reveal the number of its customers accessing the Hardship Utilities Grant Scheme jumped from 8002 to 12,555 in the 12 months to June 30.
It amazes me that the jerk from IPART said Country customers should pay more for their electricity based on the distance from the Generators.
Unless I missed something one night but all the Major Generators in NSW are IN the BLOODY COUNTY.
I have 2, Wallerawang and Mt Piper within 15ks of me, the others are located on the Central Coast north of Gosford and Liddel out Muswelbrook way.
Also this farcical rubbish about 'AGING infrastructure is another blatant lie as both the Generators and Distributors are doing work on their systems or damn well ought to be from the money we have paid to them over the years.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I've just done a quick bit of research on this & although the Government keeps pointing the finger at the electricity retailers , this is what I found.
There has been very little investment in infrastructure over the past 30 yrs (while owned & operated by the Gov't) which is now being addressed by the private energy generators. But that only accounts for a small % of the price hikes.
It is the Gov't taxes , levies (whatever) that accounts for the majority as in -
Charges calculated for a typical 7MWh / yr user.
Carbon Pricing Mechanism (tax) $168
Small Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (tax) $64
Large Scale Renewable Energy Target (tax) $38
Climate Change Levy (tax) $34
NSW Energy Savings Scheme (tax) $13
TOTAL - $317
Got my powerbill yesterday. Compared to same time last year:
Electricity Usage increased by 5%
Electricity Bill increased by 34%
Thanks Gillard you bitch....
“There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary – and those who don’t”
Well mines gone down by $80 per qtr but the panels were in uses only on the last month of the cycle.
But 2kw solar system has helped so Im curious to see my next qtr bill and my new provider with lower prices. than last provider.

in Tassie we are paying between 25 and 27 cents a KWH + GST + about $2 + gst a day fixed charge for the supply and I think we were being ripped off! We also don't have a choice of supplier like everyone else we can have Aurora or Aurora or Aurora

While we all complain about the prices we pay for power, have a think about the poor power company chiefs. They're really doing it tough
