Default Evidence of fuel price gouging.

I was on the road today and drove by many service stations today and prices within the suburbs of south east Queensland that i saw where ranging from $1.80 to $2.03 per liter.

I think there is clear cut evidence here that the fuel prices are being artificially inflated.

    Here is my reasoning.
at the time of writing this oil prices on the global market per barrel was $82 per barrel.

    as seen here

Oil prices where at that value in October 2021 November 2021 and twice in January 2022
now using E10 as an example as it is usually the displayed price at the fuel stations it was around $1.57 around October 2021 as seen on this website

in November fuel prices where around $1.67 and in January it was $1.77 at the same fuel station according to the records on the site above.

All those prices where with the fuel excise applied.

now the price of oil has gone back to $82 per barral and they seem to think people wont notice they are charging $2 per L and that is expected to go up now the fuel excise is reapplied.

This is very clear and blatant price gouging and i am actually rather angry the government does not step in and issue fines for anti-competitive behavior.

Motorists across the country are preparing for another hike to the cost of living - this time in an increase in petrol prices.

The former Morrison government’s six-month halving of the fuel excise tax, announced in its last federal budget in March, is due to expire on Thursday. (aka: today =)
Once the excise cut ends, drivers can expect to pay about 25 cents per litre more for petrol - or about $15 more to fill a 60-litre tank.

That's what just happened....I think around Brissy at the moment, we're in the 'rural cycle' of petrol pricings, so city dwellers prolly feel the pinch right away, and it'll flow out to us in a week or two. You really only notice it when you're traveling about doing distance, and moving in and out petrol franchise pricing zones where it stands out like dog's balls as you describe.

    Life...is a price gouge B^)

Petrol prices in Sydney jumped around 40 Cents a litre this week prior to the end of the excise discount.
School Holidays or just getting in before the spotlight is on the excise rise ?

Oh for sure, but I guess we're all used to that by now, same goes for 4 day holiday periods and xmas time etc, I think we're all well trained enough now to know when to fill up.

When I was old enough to own car/bike (late 60's/early 70's) , petrol was ~15cents/litre ...it's pretty much been doubling in cost every 10 years since.

I'm going into town tomorrow...I know I gotta hit the servo before 11AM before the weekend prices get posted.... it's such a volatile market B)

the govt will never do anything about price gouging , higher pump prices only mean more tax revenue coming in at the same time.....

    Absolutely.

The price of fuel hasn't jumped here yet, but it's only a matter of time. I noticed Costco upped their prices 10¢ a litre a couple of days ago, but 7/11 have not increased anything yet. It's 181.7 at Costco atm. 195.9 at 7/11. And Shell have continued to rip people off all over the place at over $2 all along. Thats all for U98, which is all I use.

Anyway, I'm lucky I guess. I don't have to drive much, so the V8 stays....

I fill up when I get my pension, Sadly, that means I often miss the best prices. Good thing I live "out bush" as, often the petrol is cheaper than what the city slickers pay.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

The opposite is actually the case, as the fuel excise is applied per litre of fuel. It doesn’t vary with cost.

A higher fuel price means people purchase less fuel. Less fuel purchased means less fuel per litre to apply the excise on.

Therefore higher fuel prices actually reduce the revenue the Government receives from the excise.

Whilst the excise is constant, the GST goes up with the higher prices.
    The government still wins.

Yes the GST goes up, however the majority of the population only have a limited expenditure. Their spending goes on one thing or something else, not both.

If people spend more on fuel only because it costs more per litre, it means they are spending less on other consumables. The Government would almost certainly be getting that GST component regardless, but the higher cost per litre still means less litres sold, meaning they are worse off.

    Unfortunately people need to work.
Yes unnecessary travel may be reduced but, barely dents fuel usage.

Theres a vast number of drivers that need to drive for a living and are on marginal rates. I dunno how these contractors and subbies survive.

$1.78 (91) on the Mid North Coast where everybody has to stop to refuel on their holiday trip between Sydney and Brissy.
I think we will survive the 'dreaded' return to full excise everybody was so concerned about.

I am far more concerned about Putin's nuclear war.
The you can REALLY start worrying about petrol or the entire lack of, as we stockpile next to nothing, yet that might still be the least of our worries.

Has anyone tried a Hydrogen fuel generator kit, where a pipe goes to the air intake and injects hydrogen? If so what was your fuel saving?

whether you like him or not - John does bring up a lot of good points through out his vids - especially the one where if it is beneficial to a car - manufacturers would have installed it....... paint protection, fabric protection, fuel polarizers to HHO generators etc etc
